Introduction to Heat Transfer
by Theodore L. Bergman (Author), Adrienne S. Lavine (Author), Frank P. Incropera (Author), David P. DeWitt (Author)
Introduction to Heat Transfer, 6 Edition is the gold standard of heat transfer pedagogy for more than 30 years. With examples and problems that reveal the richness and beauty of this discipline, this text teaches students how to become efficient problem-solvers through the use of the rigorous and systematic problem-solving methodology pioneered by the authors. Fundamental concepts have received further emphasis in this new edition, making the text even more accessible while providing a bridge from those ideas to critical applications in areas such as energy and the environment.

by Robert E. Keane (Author) Excerpt from Fire-Bgc: A Mechanistic Ecological Process Model for Simulating Fire Succession on Coniferous Forest Landscapes of the Northern Rocky Mountains The second portion of this paper details the application of fire-b'gc to a whitebark pine (pinus albicaulis) forest in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex (bmw C) of Montana. This simulation is referred to in this paper as the bmw C project. The objective was to investigate the consequences of management policies on the whitebark pine ecosystem dynamics in a spatial domain. Several management scenarios were simulated on a ha upper subalpine landscape in the southwestern part of the Swan Range of the bmwc to determine the response of whitebark pine to vari ous management actions. Many fire-bgc parameters presented in this paper were quantified specifically for this study area using field data collected by Keane and Morgan (1994) and Keane and others Ex amples of these parameters are provided throughout model documentation. 3rd Edition
by Robert Siegel (Author)
This extensively revised 4th edition provides an up-to-date, comprehensive single source of information on the important subjects in engineering radiative heat transfer. It presents the subject in a progressive manner that is excellent for classroom use or self-study, and also provides an annotated reference to literature and research in the field. The foundations and methods for treating radiative heat transfer are developed in detail, and the methods are demonstrated and clarified by solving example problems. The examples are especially helpful for self-study. The treatment of spectral band properties of gases has been made current and the methods are described in detail and illustrated with examples. The combination of radiation with conduction and/or convection has been given more emphasis nad has been merged with results for radiation alone that serve as a limiting case; this increases practicality for energy transfer in translucent solids and fluids. A comprehensive catalog of configuration factors on the CD that is included with each book provides over 290 factors in algebraic or graphical form. Homework problems with answers are given in each chapter, and a detailed and carefully worked solution manual is available for instructors
2nd ed. 2016 Edition
by Paul Shewmon (Editor) This book offers detailed descriptions of the methods available to predict the occurrence of diffusion in alloys subjected to various processes. Major topic areas covered include diffusion equations, atomic theory of diffusion, diffusion in dilute alloys, diffusion in a concentration gradient, diffusion in non-metals, high diffusivity paths, and thermo- and electro-transport.8th Edition, Kindle Edition
by Theodore L. Bergman (Author), Adrienne S. Lavine (Author), Frank P. Incropera (Author), & 1 more Format: Kindle Edition Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer 8th Edition has been the gold standard of heat transfer pedagogy for many decades, with a commitment to continuous improvement by four authors’ with more than 150 years of combined experience in heat transfer education, research and practice. Applying the rigorous and systematic problem-solving methodology that this text pioneered an abundance of examples and problems reveal the richness and beauty of the discipline. This edition makes heat and mass transfer more approachable by giving additional emphasis to fundamental concepts, while highlighting the relevance of two of today’s most critical issues: energy and the environment.
