The Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC), based in Germany, supports the United Nations family, multilateral and intergovernmental organizations and countries throughout the world, by providing scientific-technical and policy advice for developing capacities and policies in integrated landscape fire management. As coordinator of the Global Wildland Fire Network, the GFMC has established eight Regional Fire Management Resource Centers throughout the continents. Since 2023, the GFMC and its Regional Centers have been transitioning to the Global Fire Management Hub at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Both the GFMC and the Global Fire Management Hub refer to the state of science in wildland / landscape fire ecology and management. The prime comprehensive online library of fire ecology and fire management used and recommended by GFMC is the Wildland Fire Research Institute.
